Cleanliness is godliness

I haven't changed a single article of clothing in three days.

Madison Campground

Good news, GART followers! Alyssa manned up and slept in the tent last night. I even taught her how to play rummy but then she had the nerve to beat me 50 to -15! Even better, it was the warmest I've ever experienced in the park, prob 45 degrees. I didn't even need a sweatshirt. And unlike last year, the tent actually kept out the rain. Woo.

Want to see what our campground looks like? No?! Well tough!

This is where I slept:

This is where we eat (I have no idea why we brought a table cloth!)

Where we cook

How we drive

Where the non-adventurous sleep

And where we poop

However! I've just buried the lead, as they say in the world of journalism. Isn't Yellowstone supposed to be beautiful? Why have I been yapping away about a campsite? I don't know! Prob bc I woke up two hours ago and my lane family is still asleep. The point is, this is the view of the Madison River at sunrise, about a three minute walk from the campsite

Not too shabby huh? Even cooler, the river is about 85 degrees due to steam vents. I checked! Feels like bathwater you can kind of see the vents here, the rocks have been bleached purple by sulphur

And here's the steam rising

As Larry David would say, pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty good.

You don't know what you've got till it's gone

This post has a very emo title. The reason, though is I'm missing my old road trip compatriots! I feel like this:

Moreover, I am now sleeping in a tent ALONE. My sisters were scared back into the wussy RV by a few scattered rain showers and thunderclaps! GART 2009 alumni Matthew Hunger was not scared of rain. In fact he described raindrops as the crackle of life! Matt is obviously an accomplished poet.

Anyway, sitting in this tent has brought back memories of late night little critters and whiskey-induced intoxication. I have neither now but I tried to substitute by drinking two beers and playing rummy by myself!

Basically I'm playing cards against an unopened sleeping bag. Boo hoo! I wanted it to look more like this:

In other news, I'm thrilled to be in yellowstone for the seventh time. We saw some elk and moose in the distance, and a small mule deer who looked lost across a river. She will soon be grizzly chow. MMM venison!

Animal Sighting!

Today, as my sisters and I were driving from a marshy field to our left about 70 miles outside of Yellowstone, I commented that the swamp was the perfect habitat to spot a moose. Then, almost simultaneously, my sisters informed me that, in fact, there was a moose in the distance of the field.

This made me happy for three reasons. First, my sisters are chips off the ole Garten block when in comes to animal spotting. Second, I can basically predict where to find animals. Third, we've already seen a moose, one of the most elusive of yellowstone creatures! Very exciting.

Now however we are stuck in the tourist trap of West Yellowstone getting "supplies" or something. Didn't these gartenbergs ever hear of trapping their own food? C'mon!
