Toledo, Birthplace of Katie Holmes

I know zilch about Toledo. According to wikipedia, Tom Cruise's beard is from there. Don't sue me, Maverick! Scientology is cool! Everyone knows you're soooo straight.

Ahem. Road trip is going well. We missed seeing Jenny in Youngstown due to some scheduling snafus. We will be in Chicago in a few hours and are having dinner with lydia's ole chum. Then we may drive a bit more or just crash in the windy city.

We just had some grand Mexican food. I've basically had Mexican for 40% of my meals this week.

No vacancy

There are no hotel rooms anywhere in central PA. There are also no people. Lydia and I are jamming to Otis redding Christmas music and trying to stay awake. We may have to camp out of necessity! Don't tell anyone but I'd rather sleep in a hotel than a tent tonight. I am not quite in tent mode yet.

Things I have learned so far:
1) Lily has a weird way of whistling
2) Lily drives quickly
3) PA doesn't take kindly to vacancies
4) We didn't have dinner but I'm not hungry. Why?

Miles: 230. We are about 130 miles behind schedule.

Excitement

The 2011 iteration of the Great American Road Trip starts in 24 hours. Who's excited? This year's trip will be a modest affair, on account of me having a job and responsibilities and things. Lame!

Anyway, playing the role of copilot, navigator, trip-instigator and car-owner will be Lily "Lydia" Desmond. Her real name is lydia, so I guess that's backwards. She has a house on an island called Cuttyhunk, which is not Martha's Vineyard but is close. She has 87 degrees. She is an aunt, but is not that old. She is basically unemployed but will one day work at my firm. And she has never driven coast-to-coast, but has already provided some great idears, mostly involving food.

Then there is me. Today I am wearing a suit. In 24 hours I will be wearing flannel hiking attire. Like this:
