Cyrus

What! We were on a layover in Ho Chi Minh city en route to Hanoi when someone knocked my head as I was eating pho. I looked up and it was

How random! Saw dave Koch, megan, and Brennan. Random as anything. Asia is a fairly big place, yet we still ran into each other.

Singapore Adventures

Day one of SEA:

Buffalo street! I feel right at home.

This is Little India, where our hostel was located. It was bustling.

Pad Thai, my first Asian meal. It wasn't really that good.

Chris

This flower was pretty blue.

A prayerful spot

This was a large public library.

This was a three-building-long giant hotel. The structure on the top is actually a giant rooftop swimming pool.

This is the largest ferris wheel in the entire world.

Chris and Danielle in the ferris wheel

And this was our hostel.

Arrival

So I'm in Singapore. I decided to take the train to my hostel instead of a taxi because I like adventure. This means that I am riding the train alone. I feel very American here.

And I love it.

China

Yknow how everyone is afraid of china? I don't wholly understand it, and being here I understand it even less. Guess what the first restaurant I saw was:

The second thing I saw was

God bless america, right?! Spreading our values across the iron curtain.

It is pretty nice here though. The airline gave me a swanky room because my delay was an insult to their sense of honor (they said that).

It was about a 30 minute train to get into actual hong kong. I thought about doing it but it was already midnight (my flight to Singapore is at 8AM) and the currency exchange was closed, so I gave up. Instead I went tithe hotel bar where there were two folks doing karaoke-style American pop songs! Stereotype much? They closed their set with let it be. I had some whiskey.

In closing, yknow how china is supposed to be quite smoggy? Well it is.

Hong Kong

Well I am in Hong Kong. I'm still on the plane though. It occurs to me that I really have no idea what to do now. I apparently am getting a hotel room provided by Cathay pacific, but I don't know how that is going to work. At all.

Ah time to go.

Kick Ass

So I'm on like hour 3 of m flight. I honestly have no idea what time it is. West coast time is 8PM but Hong Kong time is
11Am. I think what that means is that even though I left SF in late afternoon and am spending 15 hours in the air, I don't think it will get dark out almost at all my entire time flying. Does that mean if I just stay awake until it gets dark out, I won't be jet lagged? Probably not, but I'm going to attempt it anyway.

So Cathay Pacific Airlines are pretty sweet. They have a huge library of movies. I just finished Kick Ass, which I expected to be pretty bad. It was actually good, in a very sick way! There was lots of blood and guts and murder. I like it. That is my entire review.

Now I am watching clash of the titans and it seems reaaallllly bad. Perseus has a British accent for some reason. I might skip to Kill Bill.

Beard(?)

It occurs to me that it may be time to shave the beard. No one in California has any facial hair, probably bc it's so hot. I think I look like a lost Lumberjack. Tonight...will I be farewell beard?

Grand canyon

The grand canyon! It's a big place. Perkins and I hiked 12 miles through it. This made me feel

However, it also made me feel

Overall, it was a great hike. I actually took more pics with my otter cam so I cant post many here. I mostly just use my iPhone to take pics of myself being exhausted and or happy.

And of our post-hike celebratory drinks.

Somewhere, Utah

Did you know there are lots of rock shops in Utah? I didn't.

At rock shops, they sell rocks

Filibuster

Y'know how all the blogs i read have a daily post that kind of sums up stuff they didn't get to talk about? Ezra Klein has reconciliation, matt Yglesias has endgame, Jonathan Chait has something I forget. Anyway, that's what I'm going to do now.

Here are some highlights I didn't write about.

This is a mule deer I chased in our campground in the Tetons

This is an Indian Paintbrush flower - the state flower of Wyoming

This is Alyssa, Queen of the RV

This is me pointing to the Grand Teton

This is a giant camouflaged frog at night! Dan spotted it. It was about the size of a cantaloupe

I did not buy this flask, but I kind of wanted to.

Bryce and the Japanese

Have you ever heard of Bryce Canyon? No?! I didn't think so! Apparently Americans don't know about it -- I'd say the park is 3/4 foreigners. You walk around and you hear so many non-English speakers that you feel like you're in Europe or something.

It did get a bit annoying when a group of Japanese tourists took about 1,000 pictures at this one scenic overlook, so that no one else could squeeze in. To show my annoyance, I took some pictures of them as well. Here's one:

Nice looking guy, but not very polite. Then, when he still didn't move, I just started narrating their photoshoot. That also backfired, bc based on the dirty looks they gave me, they clearly spoke English.

ANYWAY. I finally got a picture there but it's on Perkins' camera. I do have some other cool pics though!

On route from SLC to Bryce. Perkins' headwear is legit.

This was our super authentic western lunch spot! I had a garlic burger. It was great! Besides being the "best food in town," it also has the distinction of being the only restaurant in town. Moreover, "town" was comprised of about ten dilapidated buildings. It was awesome.

Made it to Bryce!

Perkins and I did not have proper footwear, nor did we avoid dangerous cliffs. Somehow, we survived.

I took a picture of matt like this last year, and now I took a similar silhouette pic of Perkins. I think they look cool! Will someone take a pic of me one day like this?

Those knobby things are called hoodoos. I don't know why but they're cool

When the sun goes behind clouds, it gets much darker

Perkins really liked caves

Sun is back!

Then it started raining and we had to take cover. It was kind of fun

Pretty big mountain

Sunset

Hello deer!

We drank some of this

I made a fire. First Perkins questioned my fire making ability. Then she criticized my fire for burning too hotly! Then I stepped on an ember that had thrown out of the fire and burned my foot.

Woah scary!
